Joanne Hill

Joanne Hill has over three decades of experience helping investors effectively incorporate indexes, derivatives and quantitative approaches into their portfolios.  She leads research and investment strategy at Vest. 

Prior to joining Vest, Dr. Hill served as head of institutional investment strategy at ProShares, where she assisted investors in portfolio strategies utilizing derivatives-based and smart beta exchange-traded funds (ETFs).  Previously, Dr. Hill was a managing director at Goldman Sachs, leading the global equity index and derivatives strategy group in the securities division and working extensively with pension funds, endowments, asset managers and hedge funds. 

A recognized leader in the financial industry, Dr. Hill is a recipient of the William F. Sharpe Indexing Lifetime Achievement Award.  Money Management Executive named Dr. Hill one of the 10 inaugural recipients of the Top Women in Asset Management Award.  She has published extensively on quantitative investment topics, ETFs and derivatives.  Dr. Hill is a co-author of “A Comprehensive Guide to Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs),” published by the CFA Institute Research Foundation.

Dr. Hill serves on the Board of Governors of the CFA Institute, as Chair of the the CFA Institute Research Foundation Board, and on the Board of the "Q" Group (Institute for Quantitative Finance). She was a Founding Member and the first Co-President of Women in ETFs.  She is also on the finance faculty at the College of Charleston. Prior to her career on Wall Street, Dr. Hill was on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and holds a doctorate in finance from Syracuse University.
